Parents and Carers
There are a range of useful resources online that you can use to find out about the career choices your child or a young person you care for may be considering. If you would like to find out more about the types of options available then request an appointment to speak to the school Connexions Adviser, Sukhvinder Kaur Rooprai. You can also find in-depth information on choices in learning, training, apprenticeships and work and tips on how to support young people from the resources below:
Raising the Participation Age (RPA)
Recent changes in Government Legislation mean that there are even more flexible opportunities for young people to participate and progress in learning and work-based training until the age of 17, and then to when they are, 18 from Summer 2015 on wards. You can read more about the changes on www.parentalguidance.org.uk The website has lots of other useful information on making choices, Apprenticeships and Training, Labour Market Information and much more.
Year 9 Options
In Year 9 most young people will be asked to choose the subjects that they want to study for Years 10 &11. Year 9 options are important because young people also make decisions about the formal qualifications they wish to take, such as GCSEs which are required for further education and work. To find out more about the options for young people including Year 9 options and how to support your child or a young person you care for read 'Your Child's education and careers options: a parents guide' on www.plotr.co.uk
